Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort Review: Why We’ve Stayed Three Times

We’ve stayed at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort three times now—and that alone probably tells you how much we enjoy it. With gorgeous grounds, spacious rooms, excellent dining, and the stunning Gran Destino Tower, Coronado offers an elevated experience without the Deluxe Resort price tag.

It is known as Disney’s “convention resort,” but it has never felt overly convention-focused to us. If anything, Coronado feels calm, polished, and a little more grown-up than some other Disney resorts.

Resort Atmosphere and Layout

Coronado Springs is easily one of Disney World’s most beautiful Moderate resorts. Palm trees, fountains, colorful courtyards, and walking paths surround Lago Dorado. It is lovely during the day, but nighttime is when Coronado really shines. The lights reflect across the water, the resort feels peaceful and romantic, and even a simple walk back to your room feels special.

The rooms are spread between Gran Destino Tower and three village areas: the Casitas, Ranchos, and Cabanas. It is a large resort, so your room location can mean extra walking. However, bridges across the lake make it easier to move between the different areas, and we’ve never found the size overwhelming.

Coronado has less obvious Disney theming than some resorts, but it still feels special. Its sophisticated atmosphere—especially at night—is a huge part of why we keep returning.

Does Coronado Feel Like a Convention Resort?

This is one of the biggest concerns I hear, but after three stays, the convention atmosphere has never negatively affected our vacation. You may see guests wearing conference badges, but the convention spaces feel fairly separate from the lake, pools, and resort villages where families spend most of their time.

Honestly, Disney’s Contemporary Resort feels more like a convention hotel to me than Coronado does. I wouldn’t let the label stop you from staying here.

Where We’ve Stayed

We’ve stayed in the preferred Casitas section twice and the Ranchos section once. My parents have also stayed in Gran Destino Tower, so we were able to visit their room and explore the Tower.

Preferred Casitas

The preferred Casitas location puts you close to El Centro, dining, shopping, and transportation. However, the buildings can be confusing to navigate—especially on the fourth floor.

During one stay, we discovered that only one elevator in our area went all the way to the fourth floor. Trying to find the correct elevator at 2:00 a.m. was not exactly magical! Once we learned the layout, it was much easier. My advice: follow the signs and learn your building, floor, and elevator location before returning exhausted late at night.

Ranchos

Our Ranchos room felt farther from the main building, but the area was quiet, relaxed, and tucked away. Whether that feels peaceful or inconvenient will depend on which amenities you want nearby.

Gran Destino Tower

Although we haven’t personally stayed in the Tower, my parents have, and their room was gorgeous. Gran Destino feels sleek, elegant, and far more elevated than many people expect from a Moderate resort. It also has interior hallways and convenient access to the lobby, restaurants, and lounges.

If we found the right offer, Gran Destino Tower would be at the top of our list for a future stay.

The Rooms at Coronado Springs

We’ve experienced two room types in the preferred Casitas section: a room with two queen beds and a king room.

We stayed in the two-queen room for a full week and never felt cramped. It had plenty of room to unpack, tons of storage, and a Keurig-style coffee maker with K-Cup pods. It was extremely comfortable for a longer family stay.

On an adults-only trip, we booked a preferred king room—and it had so much space. We were surprised by how large and open it felt. The refreshed room was beautiful, comfortable, and perfect for a couples’ getaway.

Both rooms felt more elevated than I expected from a Moderate resort and offered the space and storage needed to truly settle in.

Pools, Recreation, and Resort Time

Coronado has several pools, but we only used the main pool during our adults-only trip. On our other stays, the weather was too cold for us on our break days. Yes, Disney pools are heated—but I personally have no desire to be wet outside when it is under 80 degrees!

When Robert and I did use the main pool, it was relaxing. There is a waterslide for families, and Siestas Cantina makes it easy to grab food or a frozen drink. I ordered the Piña CoLAVA—a Disney signature piña colada blended with raspberry—and it was the perfect pool-day drink.

Even without swimming, Harper found plenty to enjoy. We check out the arcade at nearly every Disney resort, and Coronado’s was a good one. We also saw tons of wildlife around the grounds.

One evening after dinner, we relaxed in the hammocks along the beach area and then intentionally took the long way back to our room to walk off dinner and enjoy the resort at night. Coronado is one of those places where wandering around can become part of the vacation.

Dining at Coronado Springs

Dining is one of Coronado’s biggest advantages over other Moderate resorts. We’ve tried almost every location, and our experiences have ranged from incredible to one restaurant we have no plans to visit again.

Toledo – Tapas, Steak & Seafood

Located at the top of Gran Destino Tower, Toledo has been recognized by the Michelin Guide and is one of Coronado’s best date-night options. The restaurant is beautiful, the views are incredible, and the entire experience feels special.

We ordered the Dinner for Two. The appetizers were an experience and fun to try, although I wouldn’t describe everything as delicious. The steak, however, was incredible, and Robert loved it. Dessert was a nice ending, and my spicy margarita fit the atmosphere perfectly.

I recommend Toledo for the setting, views, and romantic experience—especially if you enjoy steak and are open to trying adventurous flavors.

Dahlia Lounge

After Toledo, we headed to Dahlia Lounge. I’m glad we arrived early because the outdoor patio became crowded as the night went on. We claimed a comfortable lounger, met new people, and had a fun, romantic evening.

You can see fireworks from the patio, but I wouldn’t choose Dahlia specifically for the show. The view is distant and partially obstructed. You can still see toward Hollywood Studios, including the Tower of Terror, which is very cool.

I ordered a smoky, tequila-based Old Fashioned and hated it. Ew. I quickly switched back to my usual margarita, which was great!

Rix Sports Bar & Grill

We’ve eaten at Rix multiple times, and it has become one of our reliable favorites. We especially love breakfast. I ordered the chicken-in-waffles and initially wondered, “Where’s the chicken?” It was actually stuffed inside Mickey-shaped waffles served on a stick—almost like a corn dog—with syrup for dipping. So good! Robert ordered the steak and eggs, and even the Joffrey’s coffee somehow tasted better—maybe it was the pretty mug!

We also ate dinner here several times during spring break. The portions were decent, the food was consistently good, and it was easy when we wanted a satisfying meal without making dinner a major event. At minimum, stop by for the churro iced coffee. It is so good!

Rix; Chicken IN Waffles

Café Rix

Café Rix is a separate grab-and-go location, not the same as Rix Sports Bar & Grill. We stopped here for drinks and used the beverage station to refill our resort mugs. It was convenient when we needed something quick.

Maya Grill

Before dining at Maya Grill, I mobile-ordered its churros, and they were incredible. Those churros were why I was excited to return for dinner—but the full meal did not live up to them.

The food was not good, the service was disappointing, and I was ready to leave. Harper wouldn’t even eat the cheese dip, and that is saying something! Dining experiences vary, but we won’t return for another full meal.

I would absolutely mobile-order the churros again, though. Grab them and enjoy a nighttime walk around the lake instead.

Three Bridges Bar & Grill

Oh my word—Three Bridges was so good! The restaurant sits over Lago Dorado, creating a beautiful waterfront atmosphere. It is entirely outdoors, so keep the weather in mind.

We were initially offered couches with a low coffee table, but I asked for a regular dining table, and they were happy to accommodate us. I highly recommend the dip flight. I ordered tacos, Robert had the steak, and everything was delicious.

Between the food, waterfront setting, and nighttime atmosphere, Three Bridges is one Coronado restaurant I would prioritize.

Transportation

Coronado relies on buses to the theme parks and Disney Springs. We are perfectly comfortable using Disney buses, so the lack of a Skyliner, monorail, boat, or walking path to a park has never bothered us.

Multiple bus stops are conveniently located around the resort, so we never had to return to the main building just to catch a bus. No matter which section we stayed in, a stop was reasonably close to our room.

Bus-only transportation isn’t a negative for us, but I know it matters to many guests. If you strongly prefer alternative transportation or walking access to a park, Coronado may not be your first choice. If you’re comfortable with buses, we found it completely manageable.

Who Will Love Coronado Springs?

Coronado is a particularly good fit for:

• Couples planning a romantic or adults-only Disney trip

• Families who want a great pool, arcade, wildlife, and room to explore

• Guests who value excellent resort dining

• Travelers seeking an elevated atmosphere at a Moderate price

• Anyone who enjoys a peaceful resort and doesn’t mind Disney buses

Who May Be Happier Somewhere Else?

Another resort may suit you better if you:

• Want heavy Disney character theming everywhere you look

• Strongly prefer walking, Skyliner, monorail, or boat access to the parks

• Dislike large resorts or want every amenity in one compact area

• Need a standard room that accommodates a family of five

Our Final Verdict

After three stays, we would absolutely return to Coronado Springs for a fourth. Its beautiful atmosphere, spacious rooms, strong dining options, and relaxing grounds keep drawing us back.

For our next stay, I would splurge for a preferred room. The convenience of being closer to the main building, dining, shopping, and transportation is worth the additional cost to us. If we found a good offer for Gran Destino Tower, though, that would probably be our first choice.

Coronado works beautifully for family vacations and adults-only getaways. It has enough activities and space for families while still feeling peaceful, sophisticated, and romantic for couples. It may not be right for everyone, but it has proven to be one of the best Moderate choices for us—and we aren’t finished staying there yet.
